About Me

I work as a Visualization Scientist in public outreach for NASA's Chandra X-ray Observatory at the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory. If you've ever seen a space image with X-ray data in it, you've probably seen my work. For as long as I can remember, I've been fascinated by the immensity and complexity of the Universe and our search for meaning within it.

Dynamic Web Applications

More and more of the projects that I work on involve some web-based component. Perhaps my most favorite project is the Chandra Sky Map, an interactive map for exploring Chandra's press release imagery built in javascript using the D3 data visualization library. I'm interested in expanding my current skill set and learning the latest and greatest web technologies to provide new avenues for innovation and interactivity in astronomical public outreach.

Experience

I've worked with HTML for the last 18 years, HTML+CSS for the last 12, and HTML+CSS+JS for the last 3 years. I have been coding for almost 20 years and am proficient in Python, Perl, and IDL with some experience in C++ and FORTRAN. I work in Mac OS X. When I'm not working with images of the cosmos, I play guitar in a local, 3-piece instrumental rock band.
